We had some tapes that we needed to restore and extract some info from and could only be read by these drives. It was for a very old system that we had for many years. So on finding one here, we decided to buy a replacement. HP makes great quality backup drives. If you need a big expensive backup, go with this one. We have had other brands fail, but HP staying power for a long period of time is proven. The downside is that these drives are incredibly expensive and so is the media. If you MUST have an on-premises backup hardware buy a Network Attached Storage device instead. If your backup must go offsite then use the cloud. The SCSI tape drive itself worked fine and we were able to recover the information we required.
