You may\u00a0also refer to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.emc.com\/cx4support\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">http:\/\/www.emc.com\/cx4support<\/a>\u00a0for customized documentation.<\/p>\n\n<p>The typical\u00a0warnings apply when upgrading firmware on an array, particularly if it has valuable data on it. Always perform a back-up first.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Process for Upgrading FLARE Code on an EMC CX4 Array<\/h2>\n\n<p>There are 4 basic steps to complete an upgrade:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Installing\/upgrading Unisphere Service Manager (covered in part 1)<\/li>\n<li>Preparing for Installation (covered in part 2)<\/li>\n<li>Upgrading FLARE code (covered in part 3)<\/li>\n<li>Upgrading the Recovery Image (covered in part 4) and\u00a0Upgrading the Utility Partition (covered in part 4). \u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Part 1: Installing Unisphere Service Manager on an EMC CX4<\/h3>\n\n<p>In the past, there\u00a0was a software installation wizard that could be launched directly from the CLARiiON, but now the\u00a0requirement is to use EMC\u2019s Unsiphere Service Manager (USM).<\/p>\n\n<p>This is a client-side application that can be used to perform basic maintenance tasks, including FLARE code upgrades.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong>\u00a0This application was known as Navisphere Service Taskbar (NST) prior to the release of FLARE Release 30.<\/p>\n\n<p>The first step is to install\/upgrade USM on the host that will be used to upgrade the array.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1671\" src=\"https:\/\/www.emcsps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/image001-300x160.jpg\" alt=\"Figure 1 - Launch USM executable file\" width=\"300\" height=\"160\" \/>\n<figcaption>Figure 1.1 \u2013 Launch USM executable file<\/figcaption>\n<\/figure>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.emcsps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/image003-300x135.jpg\" alt=\"Figure 2 - Prepare to install\" width=\"300\" height=\"135\" \/>\n<figcaption>Figure 1.2 \u2013 Prepare to install<\/figcaption>\n<\/figure>\n\n<p>If an earlier version of USM is detected by the installer it will give you the option to upgrade, it is recommended to click Yes.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1678\" src=\"https:\/\/www.emcsps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/image005-300x223.jpg\" alt=\"Figure 3 - Upgrade option\" width=\"300\" height=\"223\" \/>\n<figcaption>Figure 1.3 \u2013 Upgrade option<\/figcaption>\n<\/figure>\n\n<p>Read through the introduction and click Next.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1679\" src=\"https:\/\/www.emcsps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/image007-300x224.jpg\" alt=\"Figure 4 - Introduction\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" \/>\n<figcaption>Figure 1.4 \u2013 Introduction<\/figcaption>\n<\/figure>\n\n<p>Read through the License Agreement and select \u201cI accept the terms of the License Agreement\u201d and click Next to the continue.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1680\" src=\"https:\/\/www.emcsps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/image011-300x224.jpg\" alt=\"Figure 5 - License Agreement\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" \/>\n<figcaption>Figure 1.5 \u2013 License Agreement<\/figcaption>\n<\/figure>\n\n<p>The next step involves the selection of the repository location. This is where USM will store\u00a0diagnostic data (SP Collects) and items\u00a0such as FLARE code downloaded from EMC. This can be a hostname or IP address. It is generally recommended to let the USM collect the information again. Select \u201cCollect the diagnostic information again\u201d and click Next. Unless there\u2019s\u00a0an obvious problem, it\u2019s recommended that you commit to the package.\u00a0Before you\u00a0commit the FLARE code, you should check whether the LCC firmware has been successfully\u00a0upgraded. On a small array with a few DAEs, this won\u2019t take too long. On a larger array (a\u00a0CX4-960 with 64 DAEs for example) this might take a little longer.<\/p>\n\n<p>If there are no\u00a0storage configuration tasks on the horizon, leave it a day or two and make sure there\u2019s no\u00a0obvious problems.
