This is a simple guide on how to reset the vCenter Server Appliance root password if you don’t have it or you acquire second-use data center equipment with the password set on them already.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Follow the below steps to reset the unit:-<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Take a snapshot of the vCenter Server Appliance.<\/li>
  2. Open the VMware Remote Console<\/li>
  3. Reboot the vCenter VM and when VCSA Photon OS starts, press e key to enter the GNU GRUB Menu.<\/li>
  4. Append following value to the end of the linux line\u00a0 \u201crw init=\/bin\/bash\u201c

  5. F10 to continue the boot<\/li>
  6. Run following commands to change the password:
    # mount -o remount,rw \/
    # passwd
    # umount \/
    # reboot -f<\/li>
  7. Done ! You’re good to go.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n
