The iLO administrator password has been changed. You can now boot your host OS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The main disadvantages of this HP iLO password reset method are that you have to use the physical server console (go to the server room) and restart your operation system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, you can reset the iLO admin password directly from the running operation system. To do it, an official HPE tool is used \u2014&nbsp;<strong>hponcfg<\/strong>&nbsp;or&nbsp;<strong>HP Online iLO Configuration for Windows<\/strong>&nbsp;(iLO&nbsp;Management Interface Driver must be installed in the operation system running on the HPE server).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hponcfg allows you to change any iLO settings from the local command prompt on your server without the server restart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We will show how to reset the HP iLO administrator password from Windows, Linux and VMWare ESXi using&nbsp;<code>hponcfg<\/code>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h2_1\"><strong>Reset HP ILO Administrator Password from Windows<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In order to reset the HP iLO administrator password from Windows, download and install the&nbsp;<strong>HP Lights-Out Configuration Utility<\/strong>&nbsp;SP70865.exe (if it is not installed yet) for your Windows version.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/tekmart.co.za\/t-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/downloading-and-installing-hp-lights-out-configuration-image.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8331\" width=\"619\" height=\"536\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tekmart.co.za\/t-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/downloading-and-installing-hp-lights-out-configuration-image.png 629w, https:\/\/tekmart.co.za\/t-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/downloading-and-installing-hp-lights-out-configuration-image-300x260.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 619px) 100vw, 619px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Run the&nbsp;<strong>HP Lights-Out Online Configuration Utility<\/strong>&nbsp;(<code>C:\\Program <\/code><strong><code>Files\\HP\\hponcfg\\hponcfg_gui.exe<\/code>) as an administrator;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Go to the&nbsp;<strong>User<\/strong>&nbsp;tab. You will see the list of iLO users here. Select&nbsp;<strong>Administrator<\/strong>&nbsp;and click&nbsp;<strong>View\/Modify;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the next window, check the box&nbsp;<strong>Change Password<\/strong>, enter a new iLO administrator password and save the changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"368\" height=\"319\" src=\"https:\/\/tekmart.co.za\/t-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/lights-out-online-configuration-utility-change-image.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8332\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tekmart.co.za\/t-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/lights-out-online-configuration-utility-change-image.png 368w, https:\/\/tekmart.co.za\/t-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/lights-out-online-configuration-utility-change-image-300x260.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 368px) 100vw, 368px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Using the HP Lights-Out Online Configuration Utility, you can also change network settings of your iLO interface (IP address, gateway, netmask), import\/export, or reset a configuration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also use the command line tool&nbsp;<strong>hponcfg.exe<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You have to save the current iLO configuration to an XML file first:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><code><strong>hponcfg.exe \/w current_config.xml<\/strong><\/code><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"663\" height=\"114\" src=\"https:\/\/tekmart.co.za\/t-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/hponcfg.exe-reset-hpe-ilo-password-using-honcfg-command.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tekmart.co.za\/t-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/hponcfg.exe-reset-hpe-ilo-password-using-honcfg-command.png 663w, https:\/\/tekmart.co.za\/t-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/hponcfg.exe-reset-hpe-ilo-password-using-honcfg-command-300x52.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 663px) 100vw, 663px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Then create a new XML file reset_ilo_admin_password.xml with the following text:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">&lt;ribcl&nbsp;VERSION=\"2.0\"&gt;\n&lt;login&nbsp;USER_LOGIN=\"Administrator\"&nbsp;PASSWORD=\"password\"&gt;\n&lt;user_INFO&nbsp;MODE=\"write\"&gt;\n&lt;mod_USER&nbsp;USER_LOGIN=\"Administrator\"&gt;\n&lt;password&nbsp;value=\"NewILOPass\"\/&gt;\n&lt;\/mod_USER&gt;\n&lt;\/user_INFO&gt;\n&lt;\/login&gt;\n&lt;\/ribcl&gt;<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>To apply the configuration with the new password to iLO, run this command:<br><code><strong>hponcfg.exe \/f reset_ilo_admin_password.xml \/l hplog.txt<\/strong><\/code><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h2_2\"><strong>Set the HPE ILO Password from Linux Using HPONCFG<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In Linux, you have to install the&nbsp;<strong>hponcfg<\/strong>&nbsp;as well. You cannot find it in the standard repositories, so you will have to install it manually. It is easier to add a repository with HP tool using the&nbsp;<strong>add_repo.sh<\/strong>&nbsp;. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The script will automatically detect your Linux version, bitness, etc., and connect the repository you need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The<strong>&nbsp;yum (dnf) package manager<\/strong>&nbsp;is used to install hponcfg in CentOS\/RHEL:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><code><strong># yum install hponcfg -y<\/strong><\/code><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Ubuntu\/Debian:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><code><strong># apt-get install hponcfg<\/strong><\/code><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Check if the package is already installed:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><code><strong># rpm -qf \/sbin\/hponcfg<\/strong><\/code><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Create an XML file with the new iLO administrator password:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><code><strong># vi reset_ilo_password.xml<\/strong><\/code><\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">&lt;ribcl version=\u201d2.0\u2033&gt;\n&lt;login user_login=\u201dAdministrator\u201d password=\u201dpassword\u201d&gt;\n&lt;user_info mode=\u201dwrite\u201d&gt;\n&lt;mod_user user_login=\u201dAdministrator\u201d&gt;\n&lt;password value=\u201dNewHPiloPass1!\u201d&gt;\n&lt;\/password&gt;\n&lt;\/mod_user&gt;\n&lt;\/user_info&gt;\n&lt;\/login&gt;<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>Then apply the new password to the HPE iLO :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><code><strong>#&nbsp; hponcfg -f passwd_reset_ilo.xml -l log.txt<\/strong><\/code><\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">Firmware Revision = 2.20 Device type = iLO 4 Driver name = hpilo\nScript succeeded<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h2_3\"><strong>How to Reset HP ILO Password from VMWare ESXi Shell?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To reset the iLO password from VMWare ESXi, you also need the&nbsp;<strong>hponcfg<\/strong>&nbsp;tool.
