Hewlett Packard Enterprise had previously discovered a failback issue that could cause a loss of connectivity to the data stores when an HPE MSA 2040 or MSA 1040 SAS array was connected to an HPE ProLiant Gen9 server configured with an H241 Smart Host Bus Adapter (HBA), HPE Smart Array P441, or HPE Smart Array P741m in VMware ESX/ESXi environments.

This issue affects HPE MSA 2040 and MSA 1040 SAS arrays and HPE H241 Smart Host Bus Adapters as follows:

To resolve this, ps do the following:-

After updating the driver and firmware versions, the automatic rescan will recover the path. You will need to upgrade both the driver and firmware version to the latest released versions to automatically recover the paths. Install the latest released HPSA driver or any version released on or after September 2017.

• Online ROM Flash = Firmware Version 6.02 for HP Smart HBAs H241 or Smart Array P441, P741m, P841 Controllers

Perform the following steps to obtain the correct version of the firmware and driver:

6. Locate, download, and install Smart Array xxxx or Host Bus Adapter Controller Firmware Version 6.02.
7. Select the Driver – Storage Controller category.
8. Locate, download, and install the Smart Array Controller Driver for VMWare Version x.x.x.128.
