This shelf installs on a standard 19 inch wide rack. The shelf itself is 1.5U - which is ok unless you are trying to be exact with your spacing. I like this shelf because it has vent slots in the bottom so I can use ZIP / Velcro cable ties to tie-down a firewall appliance, a router and extra slack in the cables too. I'm also using the slots to neaten up cabling by Velcro-ing it to the bottom of the rack and ZIP ties to hold the router and firewall in place. The shelf is of good quality construction, made of a fairly thick and heavy metal. If on a tight budget and if you'll be using only lighter and/or shallow equipment (e.g. a mid-size switch, servers etc ) then these are probably an good choice. BTW ,we have re-purposed this shelf and its a perfect fit for our Dell PowerEdge R720 in our 19 inch 2-post rack !
