The HP Integrity rx7620 Server is a mid-range, rack-mounted system in HP's business-critical computing family, designed as an IA-64 upgrade to the HP 9000 rp7410. While it shares much of the same hardware, enhancements to the cell board, CPU modules, core I/O, and PCI-X backplane deliver improved performance.
Housed in a 10U chassis, the rx7620 supports up to 8 IA-64 processor modules (four per cell board, two cell boards max), 64 GB of memory, PCI-X I/O, and internal peripherals such as disks and DVD/tape drives. High availability features include N+1 hot-pluggable fans and power supplies, redundant power cords, and hot-swappable PCI-X cards and disks.
The system backplane integrates clock and reset logic, DC converters, power monitoring, and two Local Bus Adapter (LBA) link-to-PCI ASICs. It provides connectivity for cell boards, the PCI-X backplane, core I/O boards, SCSI components, power sources, and system monitoring features. Unlike the Superdome or rp8400, it omits Crossbar Chips (XBC), instead using a streamlined “crossbar-less” CC connection to enhance performance and reduce cost.
The rx7620 supports two MP/SCSI core I/O board sets, each consisting of a hot-pluggable MP/SCSI board and a Procurium LAN/SCSI board. At least one MP/SCSI board is required, with a second necessary for dual-partition configurations. The MP/SCSI board includes a dual-channel Ultra160 SCSI controller and plugs vertically into the system backplane, while LAN/SCSI boards connect to the PCI-X backplane.
