I was struggling to confirm what the actual max supported memory was for our HP DL380 G7 server (this is the dual processor build).
Is it 192GB? Is it 288GB (12x16GB? - and why does the HP spec sheet limit 16GB DIMMs to 12?
Well, after trial and error and countless hours, we verified that max memory for the G7 is 384GB; there is a 32GB dimm that was released specifically for the G7 (this memory module that i'm writing this review on now).
HP 32GB (1x32GB) Quad Rank x4 PC3L-8500 (DDR3-1066) Registered CAS-7 LP Memory Kit.
When you use quad rank memory, you can only populate 12 of the 18 dimm slots. Also pay close attention to the order in which the slots should be filled in - ignoring that info will cause lots of frustration.
Alternatively, you can populate all 18 dimm slots with 16GB memory if you use the dual rank flavour; with part #: 627812-B21 to get up to 288GB total. Hope this helps someone out there and saves them the same headache I went through.
