These Cisco Stackwise-480 stacking cables connect a combination of Catalyst 3850 stackable switches to form a single switching unit. They are specifically intended to work with Gigabit Ethernet, while also making it easy to allow switch additions, deletions and redeployment without interruption.

The technology advancement on the Stackwise-480 is quite impressive.

The cables have a bandwidth of 480 Gbps and behaves as a single switch while still incorporating the other member switches.

The master swtich will automatically select a standby switch within the stack. The active switch will create and monitor all updates and consistantly update the standby switch. If the active switch were to fail, the standby switch will assume the role of the active switch and will keep the stack fully functional. Connects up to 4 switches at a time.

The StackPower technonogy is present on the 3850 series as well. This technology will allow interconnected power supplies to be shared in a common use among all of the switches.
