Key points to note on these 98Y1538 IBM/Delta Energy Systems XIV Storage Systems Ats 30A Line Cord Switches:-

IBM® XIV® is a high-end, grid-scale storage system designed to deliver consistently high performance, resilience, and management simplicity, while offering exceptional data economics, including powerful real-time compression. Industry benchmarks highlight the superior performance and cost benefits of the XIV system.

As a grid-scale solution, every IBM XIV storage system comprises multiple modules interconnected by integrated InfiniBand switches, forming a scale-out grid fabric that delivers exceptional IOPS performance. It also includes a maintenance module for remote system access and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) modules to ensure continuous operation in the event of an external power failure.

The IBM XIV storage system is particularly well-suited for cloud environments, providing predictable service levels for dynamic workloads, simplified scale management (including in multi-tenant environments), flexible consumption models, and robust cloud automation and orchestration through OpenStack, RESTful APIs, and VMware. It features data-at-rest encryption, advanced mirroring, self-healing capabilities, and investment protection with perpetual licensing that is transferable to all Spectrum Accelerate Family offerings (XIV Gen3, FlashSystem A9000/A9000R, and Spectrum Accelerate).

The accompanying image illustrates the locations of key components within an XIV storage system infrastructure.

Power Configuration and Backup Options:-

The IBM XIV storage system offers several AC power source configurations:-

  • Two 30 A, 200-240 V AC, three-phase receptacles, each connected to a different power source (default configuration).
  • Two 60 A, 200-240 V AC, three-phase receptacles, each connected to a different power source.
  • Two 60 A, 200-240 V AC, single-phase receptacles, each connected to a different power source.

The system is protected by an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) for internal use, but it is recommended to reduce the risk of power outages by connecting the system to an external UPS, a backup generator, or both.

J1 is the primary power feed, ensuring efficient data center power usage. In case of power failure, the Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) will return to J1 if it detects power, optimizing system reliability. If the three-phase 30A ATS (feature code 9894) is installed and both power feeds are within operational tolerance, the power load will be shared across both feeds. If one feed fails, the ATS switches the full power load to the remaining feed.

Installation Preparation:-

Before installation, provide your IBM service representative with the following information to ensure proper power cable setup:

  • The distance from the rack to the power receptacles.
  • Whether overhead or under-floor power cabling will be used.

This ensures the correct configuration and smooth installation of the IBM XIV storage system.
