I used these 600gb SAS drives and just removed the trays; so if you plug it in directly or have the correct tray and the proper connections I do not see why these hybrid kits would not be compatible with older gen servers. SAS almost always work as SATA but never the other way around. Got these hybrid kits for a Dell PowerEdge R430 server to expand the SAS Raid. These trays fitted normally. The drives came online and added to the raid with no problems. The Hot Swap sleeve fit perfectly, locks in place, and looks just like the stock Dell drive sleeve. The drives register correctly with H730 Perc and initialization of drives was on par with Dell branded SAS drives.
