This adapter / converter plugs onto a SAS drive with an SFF-8482 Female connector and breaks out the SAS connector into separate bus and power connectors. This allows you to connect a SAS drive to your SAS controller (either onboard or added) that uses the 7pin SAS/SATA connector type. Uses SATA power connector.

These HP with Part #: 398291-001 SAS/SATA adapters will convert a 29-pin SFF-8482 SAS connector into a 7-pin SATA connector and a 15-pin SATA power connector. It will allow you to connect a SAS drive with the regular 7-pin SATA cable and without a backplane.

** Please note, a SAS controller is still required. SAS drives will not work on SATA controllers **
