These Smart Array P840 PCIe 3 x8 SAS controllers have 2 (two) internal x8 mini-SAS double-wide ports and utilize 4GB of flashed back write cache (FBWC) memory for up to 12Gb/sec transfer rate SAS and 6Gb/sec SATA .
They do not include battery, FBWC can be ordered separately here. The FBWC protects data by retaining the contents of the cache in non-volatile flash storage during a power outage. This is powered by a super-capacitor rather than a traditional battery.
