The IBM Storwize V3700 Storage System for Lenovo (Machine Type 6099) is an entry-level disk storage solution within the IBM Storwize family, designed to offer advanced storage efficiency and ease of use. It incorporates key functions from the IBM Storwize V7000 and IBM SAN Volume Controller, enabling improved interoperability, simplified management, and reliable performance for organizations facing storage challenges.

This system features a compact 2U, 19-inch rack-mount design with two node canisters. Each canister includes 4 GB of cache, which can be upgraded to 8 GB for enhanced performance. It comes standard with 6 Gb SAS and 1 Gb iSCSI connectivity, while also offering optional 8 Gb Fibre Channel (FC) or 10 Gb iSCSI/Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) interfaces to support a variety of network environments.

The Storwize V3700 supports up to 240 drives through nine external expansion units, providing flexible scalability for growing storage needs. It accommodates both 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch drives and supports various drive types, including 10K and 15K rpm SAS HDDs, 7.2K rpm NL SAS drives, and SAS solid-state drives (SSDs), offering a range of performance and capacity options.

Important Notice: The Storwize V3700 Controller Units have been withdrawn from the market and are no longer available for ordering. The recommended replacement is the Lenovo Storage V3700 V2.

The system supports up to 240 drives using LFF or SFF expansion units, with options to mix high-performance SAS SSDs, enterprise SAS HDDs, and cost-effective NL SAS HDDs. This flexibility allows it to meet a wide range of performance and capacity needs.

Key features include built-in virtualization, snapshots, thin provisioning, data migration, and replication. Optional upgrades like Turbo performance, Easy Tier, remote mirroring, and enhanced snapshot capacity are also available. Integration with VMware VVols enables advanced, policy-driven VM storage management (requires IBM Spectrum Control Base Edition for Lenovo).

The Storwize V3700 includes a web-based GUI for easy management, broad platform compatibility, and conforms to NEBS Level 3 and ETSI standards.

The Storwize V3700 supports the complete range of data storage requirements, from highly utilized applications to high-capacity, low usage applications, with the flexible choice of drives.

Up to nine Storwize V3700 expansion units are supported by a single Storwize V3700 controller unit. You can intermix 3.5-inch and 2.5-inch expansion units behind a 3.5-inch or 2.5-inch controller unit. This configuration delivers the added flexibility to mix 3.5-inch and 2.5-inch drives within a single system. More drives and expansion units are designed to be dynamically added with virtually no downtime, which helps to quickly and seamlessly respond to ever-growing capacity demands.

The Storwize V3700 storage system is designed to offer high levels of system and data availability with the following technologies:-
