The SKU:01W7HC (or 1W7HC) is a Dell part number identifying a Dell Enterprise Hard Disk Drive for some select server and storage arrays
These drives have a SAS Connector-the data and power pins are bridged together in one solid block unlike the SATA Connector where there is a distinct gap between the data and power pins.
Your server must a SAS Controller card to read this drive of which the listed compatible systems above possess or will support.
Again, this Dell/Toshiba hard drive can absolutely be assembled into a different caddy. The hard drive itself is a standard 2.5-inch SFF (Small Form Factor) option.
You most likely need to do this if you are moving the drive between different generations of Dell PowerEdge servers. The drive itself is universally compatible with SAS controllers, but the caddies are physically different between server generations.
You would just need to transfer it to another 2.5-inch caddy. If you try to put it into a 3.5-inch caddy (for Large Form Factor servers), you will need a 3.5 inch-to-2.5 inch Adapter Bracket (Dell Part 9W8C4).
If you are transferring the drive from a compatible storage system, Storage Array (like a Dell EMC Unity or SC series) rather than a server, they will have a small circuit board (interposer) attached to the connector. You must remove this interposer before installing the drive into a standard PowerEdge server caddy.
Please note:
When Dell sells the drive, converter, and caddy assembled together, they assign a single, new kit part number (example DPN: 400-ATIO) for the entire unit. The complete assembly will carry a new, different Dell part number, often referred to as a kit part number or top-level assembly (TLA) number. This is the kit number you would to need to specify when ordering .
So, while the drive's original serial and part number remains the same, the primary part number used for ordering and inventory becomes the higher-level kit part number.
